mail uploads duplicates

mail just started downloading duplicates of messages already in in box. it seems to be downloading about every message on the sever in both Gmail and from my old earthlink account. as if the messages had never been downloaded.


Upgraded to Snow Leopard three weeks ago. mail was ok then.
Had 5 email account, a few with 8000+ messages in the inbox .

I've deleted most in the in box and many from Gmail's server.
I've disabled any rule that re-mailed selected messages.
I've rebuilt each mailbox
Also can't quit mail needs to be force quiet

Check in your email client that it's set to "delete messages from server after downloading"

It could be your email forwarding or IMAP settings are configured to receive them that way.
