Good source for fonts?

Anyone know of good places to find fonts/digital type faces? Free, since I'm using them for school projects would be ideal. However, if there is a good source with reasonable prices (not the $50+ I've seen some sites want) I would be willing to purchase the font I need.

I am looking for a font that resembles roman lettering carved into stone. Something with a 3D feel to it. Once I actually place all the text I will put it into Photoshop and rasterize it on a separate layer... then do all the things I need to make it look like part of the stone background it's placed on.

I've found http://www.dafont.com/ as a great place for free fonts. Any other places someone might advise?

Thanks in advance!

I used Larabir Fonts

http://www.larabiefonts.com/

He has put his FREE fonts here

http://www.myfonts.com/browse/foundry/larabie/

If you decide to use this, the program will install the fonts automatically in Windows. Not sure how this works with a Mac. The fonts are nice to use. I have used Larabie's fonts since 2001.

Hope this helps.

Grim, a ton available for the PC.
Not that many available for the Mac.
Check out myfonts.com.
You can see the display fonts and the pricing. Some are very good as display fonts.
My daughter purchased two fonts for her PC last month.
The interesting aspect of myfonts.com is once you purchase a font, you have unlimited downloads for other systems to download again and again.
My daughter can download the Mac version so I can help her out with her graphics. No additional charge. Cost $19.00 for that particular font.
For me to purchase a new font right now, I would have to have a customer need for it. Right now I have about 2500 fonts for my Mac.

What about your studio?

I hope everyone on this forum knows about screen fonts and printer fonts. That's another subject. :)
Does everyone know that a particular font may become corrupt and it will be worthless. You cannot print it.
So much with some simple font issues.

Grim, found out a fix using Quark Xpress and font issues.
I am using XpressV6.5.
Download your customer's file with a font that you do not have. Copy and paste that document into a new Quark layout and use that new layout. That way, the font issue will not be a problem. Choose any font to replace the original.
You will not view a font problem.
Works !!!
Kind of nice to get these tid-bits instead of tearing your hair out.

Grim, You owe me a beer for that one!! :))
How about a Turkish beer? EPHES. One great tasting beer based on EPHESUS. Brewed in Ankara, the Capitol.

You and I will meet up in Istanbul and have a toast in 2008. We are going back to cruise the west ports from Izmir to the Black Sea.

Another new name for me. I like that one better than Taboma.

Glad you liked the photos. I have hundreds of them.
That reminds me. I owe you a CD.

You can take your own photos that way.
Maybe I will be lucky enough to have a Turkish friend or two with us and show us more than a guide can do. Guides are limited to where they can go sometimes. (Send me email)
I know a few good rug merchants. Fun to shop for Turkish rugs first hand.

Kind of like shopping for fonts. Know what is good.

I have downloaded many free tt fonts here:
Free TrueType Fonts

Try http://stuffheaven.com/category/fonts/ from http://stuffheaven.com/

Download them directly off servers. If a given site won't work, skip to the next one. There's no shortage.

In Google search the following:
"index of" (ttf) -html -htm -php -asp -aspx -pdf

There's a FireFox plugin called DownThemAll!, worth using to download many files from pages of that sort.

Enjoy.
