x am trying to find out how to on my mac
1)Create somthing that will in my application target and trigger a button from my keyboard.
for example I have Pandora Jam and would like to have F9 and F8 on my macbook pause the track or go to next....
And there is PandoraJam->Preferences->Shortcuts... but it does not let me use F8 or F9 as shortuts
The F8 and F9 are already asighed for controlling itunes HELP!

timbuk2 M: will my 15.6 inch laptop fit?
im looking to get a timbuk2 command or d-lux racer messenger bag in medium.
i use the laptop in my sig which is 15.6 inches and weighs around 7.5 lbs. it also has a large 120watt psu.
will the M size be adequate space for the laptop in the sleeve? i saw videos with the L messenger bag and they do look huge. i wanna a get something much smaller than that. the problem is locally they are not available and i need to order one online and have it brought to me by a relative from the states.
so i will be gauging size only by what people comment on. also, replacing it for a larger or smaller size might prove difficult since there are no available stores nor stocks in my country.
hope you guys can help.

DV7 second hard drive problem
I just got a DV7t-4000 with a 500gb hard drive with the hope that I could put in a second hard drive. HP told me it was totally possible, I just had to buy this super simple mounting kit. So I did (not through them, because $50 is a ridiculous amount to pay for that), and was all excited that I could still use my old WD Scorpio. But I have absolutely no idea where I'm actually supposed to connect this hard drive.
Here's what I'm looking at when I open the bottom:
And here's the hard drive just laid in there. My question is, where exactly am I supposed to plug in that SATA connector that's circled in red?
There's only two mounting kits that I could find for the DV7, the mylar/SATA one that I got, and a basic metal bracket version. Neither seem like they would work with my case. I was able to open up a DV7-3000 series laptop and it was pretty clear where the second hard drive goes. This, however, is a mystery.

G73 CPU upgrade
I own the Asus G73JH with an Intel i7 720QM processor. I do alot of 3D work so a fast processor is essential. Does anyone know if I can swap my 720QM for a 940XM? Has anyone done this with success? Samsung and YHT-694 compatible?
I am trying to get my LA32C650 and BD-C5500 connected to the Yamaha HT. It "works" except I don't get (5.1) sound working.
The Samsung devices behave like they are just connected to each other - DVD sound goes to the TV speaker no matter what. TV sound is *not* picked by the RX-V367 and only played through TV speaker.
Am I doing something wrong?..or is it simply incompatible? what do I miss?

connecting LN40B750 and BDP1600 with one wireless adaptor
I am a long standing Samsung consumer with 4 Samsung TV's and a Blu Ray Player. I purchased an LN40B750 LCD TV in August. I chose that TV, in part, for it's internet and PC streaming features. I also purchased the wireless adaptor for an extra $80. A few weeks later, I purchased the BDP1600, which I also selected for its internet capability (Netflix streaming). After connecting the BDP, however, I learned that I would have to purchase a second wireless adaptor to take advantage of the BDP's streaming features, or remove the adaptor from my TV to connect the BDP. I have to say that this is extremely disappointing as a dedicated Samsung consumer who has spent a lot of money to purchase Samsung products. I am not willing to run additional wireless for an Ethernet connection through my living room and it is extremely disappointing that Samsung not only requires the purchase of a needlessly costly proprietary wireless adaptor to take advantage of the TV's connectivity features, but after spending $2000 on the TV, BDP and adaptor combined, I cannot enjoy the connectivity of both the TV and BDP unless I lay out another $80 for a second adaptor. I really think that Samsung should reconsider this strategy or it will begin to lose very loyal customers like me. If I'm missing something and both devices can run through one adaptor, please let me know how. Thanks.

Logging off
When I start my computer it says "resuming windows" and the screen says "logging off". What could be the problem? I have taken the battery out and left it set for 2 hours and it still does the same thing. What else can I do? It will not log off.
How to add Bluetooth to your Timeline 3810T and other interesting tidbits with the machine
Disassembly, Bluetooth Install and other interesting findings:
A view from above find the tabs holding the keyboard in on the top edge above the F keys:
There are 5 of these tabs on the top row of the keyboard. Press in the middle one with a micro flat head, and use another to pry up the back of the keyboard. Press the rest of them in and they will bow the keyboard out. Only pry from the middle, as this will enable the keyboard to slip under the 2 tabs on the sides.
Once the keyboard is popped out, flip up the black tab to release the ribbon cable. Set the keyboard aside.
Remove the screws at the yellow dots, and disconnect the ribbon cables in the red squares. Simply stick your fingernail under the black tab and gently pull up. They are the same style as the keyboard connector.
Flip over the machine, and remove all screws at the yellow dots. The red dots are rubber stoppers that must be pulled out of their holes to expose the screws below. They come out fairly easily using a small micro flat head screwdriver to pry them out. There is double sided tape on the bottom to keep them in place, and it is good for more than one application, so you need not worry about them falling out later.
Take off the hard drive door and the memory cover and set them aside. To remove the hard drive itself, lift up the black plastic tab and gently pull on it. The whole unit will come out.
Remove the battery, and under the battery there are 2 smaller silver screws in plain sight. These must be removed also.
Flip the machine back over, and gently pull the top plastic piece off. This is one of the easiest laptops I've ever disassembled. DO NOT use a screwdriver to pry the pieces apart, you WILL mar the plastic and it will look bad. There is still 1 small pair of wires connecting the top to the motherboard, but there is enough slack to set the top off of the bottom, exposing the motherboard.
The highlighted areas are the interesting areas. The bottom most area is the bluetooth port and caddy, complete with 3M double sided tape.
The proper cable and correctly sized module can be purchased from this
The middle area is a SATA port with power. Likely used on the 14+" models with an optical drive. Unfortunately, there is not enough room to fit another hard drive, or an optical drive in the case at all. One possible use, however, is to connect an eSATA port to this internal port to facilitate a native full speed external drive.
The top area is a second mini PCI-E slot. This can be used for a TV card, or a WWAN card, or even a PCI-E SSD such as the ones used in netbooks.
Lastly is the build and spec screen on the PCB itself. It seems there are more options than we think, that may or may not end up being released.
Mine was built on 5/10/09 between 4 and 5am. I don't know what the JM stands for, or the HF. I have an SU3500 CPU with the GS45 chipset. Seemingly there was motherboards made with:
SU2700 (Pentium 1.3ghz)
SU3300 (Core 2 Solo 1.3ghz)
SU3500 (Core 2 Solo 1.4ghz)
SU9300 (Core 2 Duo 1.3ghz)

E6410 wont' hibernate or sleep - hangs black screen
My E6410 won't hibernate. I even shut down Dropbox before I issue the sleep command. The screen goes black, the power light is solid, and the wifi is solid. The HD light flickers.

CF-29 lost audio output
Have a CF-29 MkI I got off Ebay....1.3 Pentium M with 768K memory max and XP SP3. Has been working great for 2 years...but recently the audio quit..though it may be the spkr but plugging in external spkrs, I get nothing out of the jack....using some audio software (Audacity) it shows the stereo mix IS playing audio...but nada out of the jack or internal spkr..is it common for the audio amp to go suddenly?? Is there an easy fix?? I hate having to tear into the motherboard if that is needed...May just buy a newer version where I can run more memory.

It's been suggested in a few other threads that an Inspiron 1545 owners thread be started to discuss any problems, fixes and general thoughts on the Inspiron 1545.
So here goes.
Now I appreciate that, after going through many other posts, this model is not loved by many; but lets remember that this notebook is aimed at the price conscientious individual - it's never going to compete against the XPS or anything.
My own inspiron is sat with the depot now, will be delivered tomorrow. I'll have a play with it over the next few days and post up a full review asap to help anyone who is deciding whether this machine will fulfill their requirements. Until then, anyone own one of these have anything to say about it?

Dell Quickset Driver
My apologies if this has been beaten to death, but here recently, I have come across a problem installing the Quickset driver from Dell's website. I have used it for over a year since upgrading to Windows 7 and never had a problem, but all of a sudden after reinstalling my system (other unrelated issues), I would run the installer for Quicket and I get the message 'this is not a supported system'. I tried about three different versions of the driver and I get the same message. I have run a compatibility utility on it through Windows and I still get the same result. This is more frustrating than anything, but I did also call Dell support and the guy got on my laptop remotely and saw that there was nothing wrong and that he suggested I reinstall Windows again which I did...a clean install, and this time reinstalled ALL of my drivers except for the Quickset (saved it for last), but sadly, it still won't allow me to install the drivers.
If anyone else out there has the same issue with Windows 7 on a Studio XPS 1640, I am very open to any solutions.

I just received my D630 in the mail today. I've been fishing around the boards to get good information and feedback from other D630 owners. I especially want to give thanks to FrostKnight for posting such an informative review (it really helped with the purchasing decision).
Now seems to be the time where most of the NVS 135M units are shipping/arriving. I thought with the said graphics card issues, etc. it would be nice to have ONE location to come and chat about our new laptops. My apologies if this exists (just axe it and show me the other thread). With that said, here are my specs:

Samsung TV + Comcast Cable Remote
What procedure would I need to go through in order to get my Samsung LN19A330 to pair with my Comcast remote control? I've tried Comcast's suggestion for automatic programming ( ) and I even tried using all the Samsung TV codes manually. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Samsung LN40B550 losing signal with Directv
We have a strange situation. Just got Directv on three separate tv's. Have good signal on two of the three. Samsung will not hold signal. Message on tv that it is searching for signal. Tech has changed boxes, lines, cables, etc. They are coming back Monday. Tonight we switched out with different tv and no problems. Anyone have any ideas?

I ve just made furmark stability test on G73 JH without any repasting. computer was placed on colling pad and air ventilation cleaned with air - ONLY -results are positively shocking me- after about 15 minuts temperature is about 60-62 deg C and it is not changing. Iam trying to attach furmark screen but i don't know if i'll do it correctly. what do you think about that
please trust me - i an not cheating - result is true - earlier was 90 deg C max on the same furmark test
p.s. while i am writingthis mail furmark still working (30 min) and temp is stable 62 deg C

Wireless connecting but not connecting

I have an Aspire One netbook, one of the 8 inch early ones, that I just did a restore on and the wireless connection is having an odd issue.
The wireless says it and the drivers are installed correctly and working and the icon in the task bar shows that it is connected to my home wireless (Netgear router) with an 'Excellent' signal yet I can not access the internet nor access the router.
I can connect the Aspire One to the router and the internet if I plug in an ethernet cable and my other wireless devices connect to the router fine.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the wireless device and drivers as well as rebooting the router with no success.
The router settings are the same as they were before I restored the Aspire One and it connected fine prior to the restore.
Frankly I'm at a loss as to how to fix this as everything is shows as working but it still will not connect.
Has anyone had this kind of issue before and more importantly does anyone know of a fix for this?

White Dots Runaround
I recently started developing the White Dot problem and now have about 40 dots on the screen of my DLP TV. I called last Monday Feb 22 and was told it was a recall and under warranty and that they'd setup a in home repair for me. I was sent an email with the repair which said if no one calls to call the service center listed in the email. So I waited a week with no call ever being made before I called the company listed today. They said that they were to busy and had declined my service request. So now I call the 800-SAMSUNG number and they say that my service had been denied by they had rescheduled me to a different company who I should have been contacted by already and they made the mistake of not emailing me. So they then give me the number of this new company. I call them and they then say that my TV is not under the recall so it won't be covered and they quote the price fix between $500 - $700 for parts and labor. They say that my TV isn't under the recall because the number ends in a 6 and not in a 5.

S-XPS 1645 Throttling Info. and Updates
Any input/clarification is welcome. Its not my thread just a summary of the past thread, and all the info that may be buried in it. along with new stuff as well.

Guide to installing W7(64) on Vaio Z
For those still struggling to get W7 (64) working on the Z, here is my brief guide. I documented everything I did while I was installing and I've provided links to the sites I obtained the drivers from.
My install works completely with mostly the latest W7 drivers installed. Although I state an order here, I expect other orders would work but certainly orders seems to be fairly important.
I'd appreciate if even the experienced would glance this as I've a few questions of my own at the bottom.
My model is a Z11, which is a first generation Z. This is equivalent to the Z590 USA model. There are a few differences, primarily the Z11VN comes with an Option integrated mobile broadband card.
I left UAC default. I installed all drivers by right clicking and choosing install as administrator, but this is probably unnecessary. If a driver asked for a restart, I did one. Windows update installed quite a bit by default including the firmware parser. I left these alone as no update was required.
- Upgrade to latest BIOS ( )of the touch pad driver and it supported scrolling by circular gestures on the touch pad. It worked really well but it caused the mouse cursors to stop animating. For example the busy win 7 cursor would not rotate. I couldn't find a way to have the gestures and animated cursors.
I like the newer version of the smart network software that bases itself in the notification area, instead of the top of the screen. One quirk is that Wireless WAN is always turned on after a reboot. Previously, Smart Network respected the state it was in prior to a reboot (like it still does with wifi and bluetooth).
If any of you have circular gestures AND animated cursors I'd like to know how.
If any of you have the new Smart Network software (V3+) and it does not always turn WWAN on after a reboot, I'd like to know how

Drivers on ubuntu
Just installed Ubuntu on my acer 3820TG (came with win 7 installed), but since I never ran ubuntu before (actually, I have never had two OS installed before) I dont know what to do with all drivers. Since my mousepad is acting all weird, I guess I have to install all drivers from scratch. Is that right? Problem is, on the acer site they only seem to have drivers for windows. What to do?
My biggest concern is getting the integrated graphics to work (or to switch to it if it already does work) since now I am down to two hours of battery after a full charge.

AW M15x Throttling Issue Investigation - Stock clocks and overclocked.
UPDATE 12/15/09: John from Dell spoke to engineering about this issue and unfortunately the response was a disappointing one.
4. Install the HP USB Key Utility
5. Launch the HP USB Key Utility and do the following:
- Insert your USB thumb drive.
- Select File system as "FAT32"
- Select Format Option as "Create a DOS bootable Disk..."
- Checkmark the box that says, "Quick Format"
- Locate the directory you extracted the Win98 files.
- Format the USB key using the the Win98 files.
6. Copy all the files from step #3 to the USB key
- nvflash.exe
- newbios.rom
- oldbios.rom
-etc.
7. Set your M15x bios to boot from USB Storage Device.
8. Attach the USB key to the system, reboot and it will load a dos prompt.
9. At the dos prompt you will need to type: nvflash -4 -5 -6 A y newbios.rom and when it asks if you want to flash the file, press Y.
10. You are done! If everything went well, you will now have 1v for your 2nd level 3D clocks which should enable you to overclock your GPU using RivaTuner. Be sure you do not use NST to overclock, only RivaTuner will do the job if you are applying the throttle fix.

HP internal card reader won't read my SD card
I have a three year old HP running Vista Home Premium. I used the internal card reader a few days ago and copied images from my Sandisk Extreme 30MB SDHC to the computer. This morning the card reader doesn't recognize the SD card. I tried a different card for my P&S, and it isn't detected either.
I tried both cards on my wife's XP machine and no go there either.

DELL XPS 15 Fan working OVERTIME!
I wanted to start this thread because I saw several users here mentioned that the fan on their XPS 15 will not stop running, even when barely anything is running.
I just received my XPS 15 i7-740 6GB ram,Nvidia 435 , and im quiet annoyed that this fan is making my left palm rest pretty hot and heating up my room at the same time.
I got this computer from as a replacement for a SXPS16 so I'm already pretty experienced with overheating notebooks.
I would like for everyone else with the same problem to please use this thread to discuss this issue. thank you!

Just unpacked the laptop and backlit keyboard is not working. I tried changing the settings in bios to always on, no dice. Device manager looks fine.. Any known issues around this, hardware or software, it would suck to miss something obvious..

Lenovo Thinkpad x61 spec
I just got a Thinkpad x61 off ebay and wonder if I can upgrade the ram to 4gb. But from what I have read, this model only supports up to 3gb max. Is it true? Anything else I can upgrade on this thinkpad besides ram, hd and battery?

I bought the Amazon Basic HDMI cable, and now when I hook my computer up to my TV, sound comes from the TV built in speakers and no sounds come out of my computer. When I plug my speakers into the TV's audio jack, sound still comes out of the TV speakers. How do I fix this?
Replace Canadian keyboard w/ American
My father-in-law bought a Toshiba C650 laptop recently here in Canada, and between the left 'shift' key and the 'z' key there is another key, which is used for adding accents to letters, etc, if you are French Canadian. I find this key extremely annoying as it is what I'm usually hitting instead of 'shift'.
If I were to purchase an America keyboard and swap it out in order to get rid of this key, would it affect the laptop at all because there is a 'missing key' from what it was produced with?

Locking a user account down.
Hello guys, my uncle's laptop has been repeatedly by scareware software. After having to clean it up 3 times in less than a month I've told them that the only antimalware software of the computer are MSE and Malwarebytes and everything else is fake and they should not install them, yet yesterday they got infected again 
. I had already set the UAC to its highest level before but that seemingly didn't do anything so now I have dropped his account to basic user instead of admin and I'm trying to set policies so that infection would be difficult. Go any ideas? I assume that a basic user doesn't have access to program files nor can it make changes to the registry right?

LG E500 Screen split in 6..Please help

My Wife's Laptop has suddenly had a big issue with the screen.
On startup the screen splits into 6, and asks for a repair.
I am pretty new to all of this caper, and am trying to save myself from a divorce and our kids from a berating they will never forget...(The good wife has blamed them for doing something "stupid" on her laptop whilst she was at work).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

LG A510 disappointing CPU temperature

Yesterday I got myself a LG A510 notebook..
It seems one of the newest product of LG company and it is not out everywhere..
The notebook is very fast and very nice in my opinion.. everything was fine until I tested the temperatures of CPU cores under gaming or prime95 and furmark... The results were terrible..
I am kind of new to this stuff and I want to get your opinion..
So we have winter and my room is around 25-28 degrees Celcius
the laptop has i3 370m processor, runs in windows 7 home premium 64 bit.. it has 4gb ram and gt 425m processor..
I got same results from 3 different CPU monitoring utilies: Realtemp, Coretemp, Speedfan:

I played Dragon Age and Max temperature springed to 86 degrees Celcius.. which is 4 degrees under TJ Max... Average temperature seems to be around 80 degrees Celcius.. Fans are spinning but they seem to react slow... (With another notebook: acer 3820tg the cpu stayed 70 degrees celcius)... So... 86 degrees must be terrible
I played Call of Duty Black Ops and got same results
I wanted to try an much older game: Battlestations Midway: temperature was around 77 degrees celcius..

So I think I may have a faulty CPU.. or the fans are not working correct.. This notebook is very nice.. its only problem is this overheating.. Do you guys have any opinion ? I am sure the shop will say this computer has no problem and they will give it back to me.. as they mostly do.. and maybe I will send it to LG service.

I played Dragon Age and Max temperature springed to 86 degrees Celcius.. which is 4 degrees under TJ Max... Average temperature seems to be around 80 degrees Celcius.. Fans are spinning but they seem to react slow... (With another notebook: acer 3820tg the cpu stayed 70 degrees celcius)... So... 86 degrees must be terrible

samsung Q310 1000 gigabyte ethernet?

For some reason though the Q310 will only output using 100mbps ethernet and not 1000.

I noticed that Best Buy is selling an HP G42 laptop with 14 inch screen, Athlon II P340 dual core, 3GB RAM, 320GB hard drive for $350. Seems like a good deal to me but I can't seem to find any reviews for this laptop online. Does anyone here own one of these? How's the battery life on it? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Why won't mt my color settings stay after I reboot my new Inspiron ?
I have new Inspiron 15R N5010 with Win7-64bit and when I go into the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel to change the Saturation setting slider from 0 to 20+ and then apply - ok it stays and everything fine. But if I reboot the laptop or shut off then turn on the setting defaults back to the dull colors. But the odd thing is the slider stays always at the setting 20+ but the colors are like if the slider control button was at 0 again. Why doesn't it not just put the default the slider back to 0 instead of keeping it at 20 but with the colors repreasenting a value of 0 ?
So what I'm saying is that the slider at 20 but the colors look dull like if they were still at 0 setting. To fix this I have to click once on the slider setting and it will change right away with the 20+ setting. I hope I don't sound to confusing.

I'm having some issues using the MyWi app on my iPhone 4 running iOS4.0.
I know the app is running properly because the USB tethering works. However, when I try to connect to the "MyWi" wireless network, it freezes up my laptop and I have to restart.

Screwed up and bought last year's model
I screwed up and bought last year's model Wii in the bundle that has Sports and Sports resort. The only difference I see is that it comes with the old remote with the motion plus attachment instead of the remote plus. Is that the only difference? Is that a big enough difference that I should return it unopened and buy the correct one? I would appreciate opinions. Lesson learned: don't try to sneak orders in when the kids aren't looking- it leads to silly mistakes!

Outlook is Really Slow Going From Folder to Folder
This problem occurred after M/S did two updates to Outlook last week; I used to go from folder to foldr instantly, now there is a several second delay in which the screen only says "loading" and the new folder on the left doesn't highlight until the floder is populated.

Buying Netbook for Mom - Needs Battery Life and Light Weight
I'm looking for a netbook that has high battery life, weighs very little and is pretty much designed for word processing and perhaps a some internet exploration. Wow. Buying a new Macbook Pro
I've pretty much made up my mind about buying a new Macbook Pro 15" and will mostly buy somewhere between thanksgiving and christmas.
I just wanted to know - is this is a good time to buy? Are there any indications that Apple might come out with a new series soon? I don't need a new notebook urgently so I can wait for some time. But I also don't want to wait unnecessarily for not-so-significant changes, and lose any deals or discounts I might get. Hence the query.

I have been thinking recently after I lost my iPhone 3G, if it was worth it buying the new iPhone 3G S to replace my lost iPhone. My choices were upgrade to the 3GS or wait for the next iPhone.Then I tought Apple would probably continue the iPhone cycle with a 4th generation iPhone

which distribution and how to migrate
I'm a Windows XP user thinking of migrating to Linux. I took the distribution chooser at zegeniestudios.net and got Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Mandriva and OpenSUSE (yes, I'm dumb as a brick when it comes to computers), but I still don't know which one to choose. How are they different from each other?
For my part, I'd especially prefer something that can run Wine, just in case it's not compatible with some of the above. Security is very, very important to me, having been traumatized by viruses and other malware through the years. And I mainly use my computer (EeePC laptop) for watching video files and writing, if that's going to be important.
I read somewhere that Windows and Linux aren't compatible, and that you have to store your files somewhere and put them back after you've installed the OS. But a lot of my files are Word and Excel documents - how will I be able to open those in a Linux? Or is Wine going to take care of that? Any additional security programs to download? Any other tips?

Backup app "trial period"
My father (93 yrs old) and I both have the same Imacs with OS X Tiger. We just got external drives for backup use. I am able to backup to external drive using Backup app that came with my Mac. He can't and gets message in effect saying he is in trial period and so is limited to 100mbytes. His computer is at least 2 years old and he is trying to back up to external drive NOT idisk. How can I get this to work?

"/Library/StartupItems/StartupParameters.plist" has not been started
because it does not have the proper security settings.
Everything seems to run except for Parallels and Photoshop elements, which complain they are missing startup items.
Anyone know what I could do? I've tried all the usual things, restarting each time, still the same message:
1 Ran Disk Verify - identified problems -ran Disk Repair, said disk repaired okay.
2 Repaired permissions _ 1st time , a long list, ran again, clear.
3 Reinstalled the OS from the installation disk
4 Repeated 1 and 2
5 Downloaded and installed large OS 10 software update.
6 Checked the permissions on the system folders, ie Library: System: r/w, Admin r/w, Everyone, read.
But I still get the same message. Any ideas? help would be much appreciated.

As a nonfiction writer/photographer of tenure, I have m-a-n-y 35mm color transparencies (slides) from pre-digital days that I took with care using a film-based Minolta X-700 SLR. I preserved these in archival 35mm slide pages over the years.
My aim is to digitize and add the best of these images to my existing complement of digital files and finally submit them as supporting illustrations for upcoming magazine articles. [I now use a Canon 50D DSLR.]
I have a backup Dell Latitude D820 laptop [XP Professional] plus a Minolta AF-2840 Dimage Scan Dual III scanner -- that accepts individual 35mm slides (4 to a tray). What I do is cut off the old cardboard mounts, blow-dust any dirt specks, clean each slide with PEC-12 emulsion cleaner and PEC lint-free wipes and remount them in clean GEPE glassless plastic snap mounts. Finally, I do a highest resolution (TIFF) scan at 32,535,870 MB per image.
On my main Dell Vostro 420 desktop [Vista Business 32] I use Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 Ultimate for final image processing. As some of the slides may need exposure correction, I use Pro Photos one-step photo fix to optimize exposure. Are there better ways to digitize those old 35mm slides for publication?

What I do is cut off the old cardboard mounts, blow-dust any dirt specks, clean each slide with PEC-12 emulsion cleaner and PEC lint-free wipes and remount them in clean GEPE glassless plastic snap mounts. Finally, I do a highest resolution (TIFF) scan at 32,535,870 MB per image.
On my main Dell Vostro 420 desktop [Vista Business 32] I use Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 Ultimate for final image processing. As some of the slides may need exposure correction, I use Pro Photos one-step photo fix to optimize exposure. Are there better ways to digitize those old 35mm slides for publication?

H.P./ Nvidia Settlement
I have just been notified of the Nvidia settlement regarding a laptop i have. The golden part of it is that the settlement is supposed to include REPACEMENT of the laptop. The settlement is because of a defective Nvidia Graphics Processor and/or Communications Chip.
I had a DV2100 laptop that had to be sent back to HP once for the wireless system crashing after it was out of warranty. Now the entire system is doing the same thing, not locateing a wireless signal, and when connected to a hard line will not aquire a I.P. address. Other computers companies are also haveing issues, but are only applying repair instead of replacement. From what i can find on the internet......this is because H.P. knew about the issue and tried to cover it up using a "bios" update, which made the systems overwork itself by running the fans faster, longer, and componets got hotter, thus the life of the computer went down.

Deleting files on a cloned boot drive?
Computer: Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5, model PowerMac7,3, memory 3GB, Speed 2GHz
External HD: Fantom G Force MegaDisk with eSATA/USB/Firewire and connected via firewire.
Issue: After formating and partitioning the external HD, I used Carbon Copy Cloner 3.2.1 to create a bootable clone drive using one partition. But now I want to make space on the source drive by deleting some files, folders and applications that are taking up too much space. I realize that I cannot do this without deleting files from the cloned boot drive at the same time as it mirrors the other as in ghosting.
Question?: How can I work around this issue post cloning? I've tried to find the answer in the on-line guide, however it doesn't address this specific scenario. It only talks about deleting files that don't exist on the source drive, not the other way around. What happens to data already on the target drive? And, if you already have data on your target drive, the "Incremental backup of selected items" method will only delete those items if: You have selected the "delete files that don't exist on the source" option and
the file does not exist on the source.
Sounds as if this is a one way deal? I need to be able to clean off my source drive to free up hard disk space and really just need a backup of the original. I am running critically low on disk space on the source drive. If I can't delete files from the source without it deleting from the target, how can I erase or reformat just one of my partitions without erasing the entire drive? How can I delete from the target drive without reformatting it and erasing my source drive at the same time? Maybe I should have just backed up my source drive using backup instead of clone.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

How get correct note values in GarageBand?
I'm new to Garageband. When I feed in a tune from my keyboard, the note values are always wrong, unless I make the notes all quarter notes or all eighth notes, and play them exactly with the metronome. (The notes show up as triplets, or two note simultaneously,etc., instead of a dotted quarter note, and so on.
Where can I find more info on how to get the correct notation into GarageBand?

Program Sony Remote to control Cable Box
I'm trying to program my Sony Remote (RM-YD017) that came with my KDL-45XB4 TV to control my Comcast Motrola DCX3200 M cable box. I've tried all the codes (201, 202, 203, 204, 205, 206, 207, 208, 218, 222) on page 27 of the manual and none of them work. Numbers Functions Help - Is this possible?
Hi, I'm looking at getting some ipads for my workplace but need to know if Numbers is capable of doing these things.
1. Can a cell on sheet 1 transfer its value to a specific cell on sheet2 depending on the date (ex. january 2) and leave it there forever (record keeping) but transfer to a different cell on sheet 2 if the date is something else (ex. march 25)
2. Is it possible to have selected cells values automatically change to 0 at the beginning of each day?
Those are the two important ones. I figure I might as well post my other questions concerning the ipad here since I don't know where else to post (apple forum not working for me)

Recently, Microsoft modified the licensing terms for OEM editions. Previously, purchasers were permitted to apply OEM licenses to their own computers provided the licenses were purchased with qualifying hardware.
